Our bodies work hard every day to keep us healthy, and the immune system is part of our first line of defense against viruses and bacteria that cause diseases. Keeping a strong immune system means better protection against sickness.


Here are 7 ways to give your immune system some much needed TLC during cold & flu season.

1. Sleep!

There’s no compensating for the time you allow your body to rest and regenerate. Dare to give yourself a couple of “free days.” What you think is unproductive (chilling out and sleeping) are highly productive times for your body to refresh. Set that refresh and restart button in your body.

2. Practice intentional balance!

It’s not enough to keep nagging thoughts at the back of your mind that you should aim for work-life balance. Make a conscious decision on it. Bring out that calendar and start carving out chunks of time for your own R&R. 

3. Wash those hands!

Cold weather and low humidity allow viruses to live and stay longer in the air. Be mindful of what you touch or hold (like office door knobs and store handles), keep your hands away from your face, and wash your hands before you grab a bite to eat.

4. Eat antioxidant rich foods!

Fruits like berries and cherries are loaded with antioxidants. In periods of high stress, our bodies produce more free radicals (unstable molecules that can cause a chain reaction of oxidative stress). Normally our bodies can handle these free radicals, however with an overload of stressors, our bodies need more help. 

5. Get moving!

6. Keep a grateful mindset!

Instead of constantly counting the things you haven’t done, start being grateful for the things you’ve accomplished (big and small)!
